Breaking Walls, Building Futures: KIPP Memphis Makes History in Cordova

A new chapter is underway! On October 1, KIPP Memphis Public Schools celebrated a historic milestone with the Wallbreaking Ceremony for KIPP Cordova Collegiate Elementary, our first school in the Memphis suburb of Cordova.

In the News: Watch WREG News Channel 3's coverage of our historic expansion into Cordova.

With sledgehammers instead of shovels, KIPP Memphis leadership, board members, community partners and supporters gathered to mark the transformation of a former corporate office building into a vibrant elementary school where creativity and academic excellence will take center stage.

Opening in August 2027, the tuition-free public charter school will initially serve students in kindergarten through second grade, with plans to expand through fifth grade. Led by Founding Principal Shayla Morgan, the school will combine strong academics with a focus on creative and performing arts, including music, theater and dance. For more than 20 years, KIPP Memphis has worked to expand educational opportunities for students and families. This milestone represents another step toward our vision of ensuring every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities.

The walls are coming down, and the possibilities are going up!
